He was predeceased by: his wife Dorothy Stalvey Avera; and his sister Betty Patten. He is survived by: his children, Cynthia A. McDonald (Ed) of Raleigh, NC, Shannon A. Balas (Michael) of Richmond Hill, Dana A. Jones (Neil) of Houston, TX and Tony Avera (Carol) of Savannah. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
