He was predeceased by: his parents, James Earl of Bethel and Lucy Knox Copeland of Bethel. He is survived by: his brothers, Ronnie Copeland (Susan) of Farmville, Timothy Copeland (Ann), Bruce Copeland (Brenda) and Mark Copeland (Michelle). He is also survived by 7 nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial gifts be made to Hickory Grove OFWB Church.
