He was predeceased by: his siblings, Ethel Louise Lyon, Marjorie Morris, Isabelle Davies, William Whitehurst, Albert Whitehurst, Oliver Whitehurst, Marie Wells, Donald Whitehurst and Linda Young.
He is survived by: his significant other Sarah Whitehurst (Jones); his children, Kenneth Louis Whitehurst (Suzanne) and Laura Marie Lascara (William Lascara); his stepchildren, Debi Sue Schaefer (William) and David Alexander Butts; and his children, Stephanie Kranz (Whitehurst) and Vincent.
A devoted ECU alumni, in death he donated his body to Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University through its body donation program.
