With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Anna Lois Carawan of Greenville, North Carolina, born in Nashville, Tennessee, who passed away on February 19, 2024 at the age of 99. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Isaac Kirklin and Rozina Harris Kirklin; and her siblings, Denton, James, Sarah, Neda, Ola and Audie.

She is survived by: her husband Roy Jarvis Carawan; her children, Roy J. Carawan (Lena) of Greenville and Peggy Carawan of Wilson; her grandchildren, Neda Carawan Spinelli (Jim), R. Scott Carawan (Leigh Ann) and William Kirklin Carawan; and her great grandchildren, Michael Hood, Dylan Hood, Noah Carawan and Joseph Carawan.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Swan Quarter Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 97, Swan Quarter NC 27885.

“Hello, I’m the best friend of Anna’s roommate. We have known Anna for a little over three years and she has made them fun and interesting. I love Anna because she just wanted to be caring and make connections with people. She had a great sense of humor and played tricks on Kelly. Plus, because of her “diminished capacity” and advanced age she could get by with telling people they were being bad in no uncertain terms. We love that she still had that spicyness about her!”
