He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Alton and Magdalene Darden Benson. He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Early Benson; his brother John Samuel Benson of Oak Island, NC; his children, Judith Benson "Judy" Fitchett (Art) of Jamestown, NC, Shawn Adams Nollen (Mike) of Bethlehem, GA, Robert A. "Bob" Benson (Kathy) of Greensboro, NC and Stephen Lawrence "Larry" Benson (Sheila); and his grandchildren, Laurie Kovarik, Zack Benson, Emily Frey, Bethany McKenney, Susanna McDonald, Chris Fitchett, Brian Fitchett and Adam Fitchett.
