He was predeceased by: his parents, Leasure Maple and Lillie Hess Maple; and his grandson Edward "Eddy" Merritt. He is survived by: his wife Kathleen Alcorn Maple; his children, Lu Ann Maple Sexton (David) and David Lee Maple II; his grandchildren, Jamie Lee Hensley (Shan), Dallas Gibson, Mitchel Sexton (Lacey) and Kathleen Hunt (Bradley); and his great grandchildren, Lilly Hunt and Kenzie Hunt-Livengood.

Visitation was held on Monday, October 28th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel (6000 W Gate City Blvd, Greensboro, NC 27407). A funeral service was held on Monday, October 28th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
