He was predeceased by: his parents, James Kilby and Rose Mabe Kilby; his son James Roy Kilby; and his brothers, Millard Kilby and Jason Kilby.
He is survived by: his wife Nancy Isaacs Kilby; his daughter Betsy; his son-in-law Robert Lail of Granite Falls, NC; his grandsons, Robert Lail, Jr. and Joshua Lail; and his sisters, Edna Bowlin and Belva Phipps. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.
