He was predeceased by: his father Calhoun Samuel McPherson; his wife Allene Johnson McPherson; and his siblings, Doreen McPherson Weston, Vivian McPherson Bodenheimer, Evelyn McPherson Teer and James R. McPherson.

He is survived by: his children, Jackie Holt (Bobby) and Sam McPherson (Lesa); his grandchildren, Ashley Ramey, Janna Holt and Jeremy McPherson; his great grandchildren, Evan, Taj, Ty, Lily, Austin, Bentley, Charlotte and Brayden; and his sister Jane McPherson Terrell.
