He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Bowling and Irene Walton Bowling; his son Robert James "Robbie" Bowling; and his brothers, Elbert, James and Paul Bowling.

He is survived by: his wife Becky; his children, Windy Kirkman (Keith) of Graham, NC and Allen Smith (Kristi) of Wright City, OK; his grandchildren, Connor Young, Alexis Young, Blakely Smith and Russia Smith; and his siblings, Billy Bowling (Sarah), Harold Bowling (Virginia), Eunice Griffin, Betty Davis (Bob) and Marie Moore (Rick).
