He was predeceased by: his spouse Clara Hughes Jones Terrell; his parents, Ralph Otis Terrell and Estelle Bunting Terrell; and his siblings, Betty Molko and Clarence Terrell.

He is survived by: his daughters, Susan Hughes Terrell (Grady Patton) of Greensboro and Elizabeth Anne "Betsy" Terrell (Jeffrey Textor) of Surf City; and his sister Louise Powell of Durham. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
