He was predeceased by: his spouse Shirley Goodson Helm; his parents, Alvis Edmond Helm and Mae Evelyn Longest Helm; and his daughter Karen Cates. He is survived by: his daughters, Kimla Handy (Cavin) and Kelly L. Helm; his grandchildren, Tiffany Lewis, Kerrie Handy, Ciera Handy, Mason Cates and Elijah Helm; and his sister Dot Isley. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren.
