He was predeceased by: his parents, John Melvin and Maude Caswell Melvin; his wife Ida "Pearl" Watkins Melvin; and his sister Lettie Mae Hunter. He is survived by: his sons, Greg Melvin and Mike Melvin (Myra); his grandchildren, Rachel Melvin, Jacob Sykes Caleb Sykes and Charlie Melvin; and his sisters, Betty Faye Bryant and Barbara Peterson (Clark).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wicker Street Baptist Church at 512 Wicker St. Burlington, NC 27217.
