He was predeceased by: his mother Valeria Prioleau Scott of Charleston; and his brothers, William and Charles Prioleau Scott (Charlie). He is survived by: his wife Stephanie Leslie Scott of Morganton, NC.; his children, John Guerard Scott Jr. (Meredith Brooks Scott) and Anne Leslie Scott Alexander (Charles McNeill Alexander); his grandchildren, Charles McNeill Alexander, Jr. (Charlie), Charlotte Avery Alexander (Avery), John Guerard Scott, III (Jack) and Grace McKesson Scott (Gracie Mac); and his siblings-in-law, William Augustus Leslie III (Cindy), Miriam Leslie Green (Barry), Ann Patterson Scott and Leslie. He is also survived by nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

As a Senior Vice President of Smith Barney and a Certified Investment Management Consultant, John served his community as a board member and investment committee chairman of the Community Foundation of Greensboro.
