He was predeceased by: his parent Katie Strayhorn McPherson; and his siblings, Virginia McPherson Hamby and Bobby McPherson. He is survived by: his spouse Jo Ann Perry McPherson; his children, Terry G. McPherson (Lynn) of Graham and Deanne McPherson Vaughn (Mickey) of Graham; his grandchildren, Carla McPherson Fuller (Bryant) of Charlotte, Casey McPherson Allred (Andy) of Graham, Nicki Vaughn of Greensboro and Stacey Vaughn McGlothlin (Jonathan) of Snow Camp; his great grandchildren, Mattie Fuller, Miles Fuller, Ella Allred and Noah McGlothlin; and his brother Charles McPherson (Betty) of Mebane.
