He was predeceased by: his former wife Anna Hicks Potter Derby; and his parents, W. J. "Jake" Derby and Hope Schilletter Derby. He is survived by: his daughter Hope Derby Carmichael; his son-in-law Randy of Raleigh; his son Jay Derby III; his daughter-in-law Susan of Arkadelphia, Arkansas; his granddaughters, Emma Hope Carmichael, Caroline Woods Derby, Anna Leigh Derby and Anna Ross Carmichael; his wife Rita Carey Derby; his sisters, Ellen (Jack Best) and Susan (Wilson Stackhouse); and his cousin Doug Schilletter (Teri). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
