He was predeceased by: his father John Kantenwein; his brothers, Dan Kantenwein, Leon Kantenwein, Ed Kantenwein and Chris Kantenwein; and his grandson Michael Brock Kantenwein.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Ann Roach Kantenwein; his children, John Michael Kantenwein (Tammy Britt Kantenwein) of Goldsboro and Sheila Ann Wolfe (Bennie Nelson Wolfe) of Pikeville; his grandchildren, Jason Wolfe (Allison), Vanessa Kantenwein, Justin Wolfe, Kimberlee Wolfe and Katherine Wolfe; and his great grandchildren, Cora Elizabeth Wolfe, Ava Wolfe, Carson Wolfe and Kameren Wolfe.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to Community Hospice 2309 Wayne Memorial Dr, Goldsboro, NC 27534, Southeastern Medical Oncology Center 203 Cox Blvd, Goldsboro, NC 27534, or to WAGES Meals on Wheels 601 Royall Ave, Goldsboro, NC 27534 in memory of Walt.
