He was predeceased by: his parents, Rex E. Spurgin, Sr. and Gladys Jenkins Spurgin; his wives, Jane S. Hendrix and Earle Gladson Spurgin; and his sister Eleanor Sassor.

He is survived by: his daughter Pamela Spurgin Barbee; his son-in-law Johnny R. Barbee; and his grandchildren, Jacob Lawhon and Jordan Moody (Boone Moody).
