She is survived by: her children, Carrie Smeal of Goldsboro and Freeman Todd Stepp of Wilmington; her grandchildren, JD "Trey" Cormier III, Mindy Alexander, Dalton C. Ealey and Christopher Smeal; her son-in-law Aaron C. Smeal; and her caregiver Jo Ann Whitfield. She is also survived by 9 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren.
