He was predeceased by: his son Glenn Summerlin; his parents, Margaret Parker Summerlin and Joseph Lillard Summerlin; his stepmother Kathleen Summerlin; and his siblings, Jean Summerlin Askew (Melvin Askew) and Paul Summerlin.
He is survived by: his wife Marilyn W. Summerlin; his children, Karen Rose Summerlin of California, Melissa Summerlin (Frank Maurice) of Burlington, Stephen Buckner (Amanda) of Calypso, David Waters (Christa) of Calypso and Valerie Summerlin of Louisburg; and his grandchildren, Matthew Waters, Will Buckner, Cameron Buckner and Genelle Waters. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
