He is survived by : his wife Sharon DeBruce Barnes; his children, Bernard Barnes, Steven Stewart (Moreal), Brianna Hinnant and Kenya DeBruce; and his siblings, Rodney Barnes, Lerone Barnes (Idell), Vernard Barnes and Rena Saunders (Donald). He is also survived by other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, June 26th 2024 from 9:30 AM to 10:15 AM at the Howell Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel (1500 Wayne Memorial Dr, Goldsboro, NC 27534). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, June 26th 2024 at 10:30 AM at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534 in his memory.
