He was predeceased by: his parents, Winfred H. Jernigan and Lucy Poythress Carter; his wife Alice Starling Jernigan; his daughter Allison Leigh Jernigan; his stepfather Seaton Carter; and his brothers, Winfred H. Jernigan, Jr. and Joseph F. Jernigan.
He is survived by: his son Jeffrey Lee Jernigan (Melinda); his grandsons, Joshua Lee Jernigan (Mary Kathryn) and Graham Scott Jernigan; and his brother Clifton Jernigan (Gail).
