He was predeceased by: his parents, Lenwood Earl Benton and Gertha Ginn Benton. He is survived by: his children, Troy Tyson Benton (Holly) of New Hill and Lindsey Benton Gardner (Kevin) of Matthews; his grandchildren, Elaine, Harper, Adeline, Lincoln and Emerson; his siblings, Anna Benton McFalls (Russ) of Culpeper, VA, Dr. Kenneth Benton (Marilyn) of Dunn, NC and Michael Benton (Phyllis) of Danville, VA; his sweetheart Sydney Dupree; and also Jason. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to First Free Will Baptist Church, 604 E. Ash Street, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
