He was predeceased by: his wife Peggy Tyson Nanney; his parents, Otis Nanney and Mildred Nanney; and his siblings, Robert, Ray Nanney, Louis Sain and Elizabeth Worthington.

He is survived by: his children, Timothy Lee Nanney (Wendy) of Greenville, SC and Carla Glenn Nanney of Newport News, VA; his sister Dot Winstead of Apex, NC; his grandchildren, Meredith Pflug (Chris), Taylor Nanney (Shauna), Travis Nanney, Kacey Smith (Robert) and Maggie Hagy (Logan); and his great grandchildren, Sadie Mae Pflug, Addie Pflug, Macie Pflug, Jack Pflug, Graham Nanney, Charlee Nanney, Wells Davis Nanney and Beau Smith. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
