She was predeceased by: her parents, Floyd Whitley and Selma Blackmon Spells; and her sister Billie J. Hobbs. She is survived by: her children, Wenda S. Wright of Durham, George D. Freeman of Virginia, Joseph C. Joyner (Pamela) of Pennsylvania and Jerrold L. Joyner of Maryland; and her siblings, Michael Spells (Debra) of Virginia and Marvel "Gail" Warner of Texas. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
