She was predeceased by : her parents, Dick Coats and Sara Mae Coats; her former life partner James A. Jackson; her husband Vernon Parnell; and her sister Dixie Goode.

She is survived by : her daughters, Gwen Woodard (Darrell) of Dunn and Sara Godwin of Dunn; her sisters, Barbara Watson of Banner Elk and Kay Latham of Godwin; her granddaughter Zoey Godwin; and her nephews, Brad and Derek Watson.
