He is survived by: his children, Jeff Meek (Cindy) of Glen Alpine, Sharon Ross (Jimmy) of Glen Alpine, Pauline Mitten of Ohio and Brian Meek (Grace) of Ohio; his grandchildren, Amy McPeters (Travis), Carl Meek, Janie Beam (Travis), Stephen Ross, Rachael Lust, Mark Mitten, Miles Mitten and Justin Meek; his brothers, David Abernathy, Johnny Abernathy, Tim Abernathy (Susan) and Phillip Abernathy (Beverly); and his close friend Mickey. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
