It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Vernon Hedgepeth of Gatesville, North Carolina, born in Gates, North Carolina, who passed away on October 1, 2023, at the age of 92, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, James George and Jacy Odell Eure Hedgepeth; his wife Janet Askew "Jeanette" Hedgepeth; and his siblings, Dorothy Evans and J. Pollard Hedgepeth.
He is survived by: his children, Vicky Cherry (Curtis) of Williamston, Melanie Storey (Jerry) of Murfreesboro, Alice Harrell of Gatesville, Larry Hedgepeth (Nancy) of Eure and Gary Hedgepeth of Ahoskie; and his sisters, Margaret Johnson of Gatesville and Detra Rose of Durham. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and twin great-great-grandchildren.
