She was predeceased by: her parents, William Thomas and Ella Mae Earley Spivey; her husband Lonnie Richard Bass; her daughter Rosenell Umphlett; her sisters, Ruth Umphlett, Elizabeth Wiggins and Lillian Parker; her half-brother Herbert Spivey; her son-in-law L. E. Smith; and her grandson Lee Umphlett.
She is survived by: her children, Mary Ella Smith of Elizabeth City, Helen Marie Paul (Tim) of Powell's Point and Jesse R. Bass (Marlene) of Hobbsville; and her half-siblings, Gloria Twine and Thomas Spivey of Hobbsville. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 23 great-great-grandchildren.
The family asks that flowers be omitted and contributions in her memory be made to Warwick Baptist Church, in care of Cindy Harrell, 433 Gliden Road, Hobbsville, NC 27946.
