It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Hardy Jay Askew of Gates, North Carolina, who passed away on February 12, 2024, at the age of 72, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Hardy Jones Askew and Dorothy Marie Lawrence Askew; his wife Jessie Diane Finley Askew; and his nephew Brian Clapp. He is survived by: his children, Bridgett Coburn of Gates and Johnnie L. "J. C." Coburn, Jr. (Debbie) of Eure; his sister Patricia Askew Joines (T. J.) of Mechanicsville, VA; his cousin Jeannie McGregor (Bruce) of Southlake, TX; his grandchildren, Eric Coburn (Kelsey), Samantha Coburn, Trevor Coburn and Leland Coburn; and his nephews, Lee Joines (Melissa) and Jay Joines (Laura). He is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews, cousins.
In lieu of flowers, and in memory of Hardy Askew, contributions may be made to our local school programs of your choice, such as meals, sports and FFA.
