With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Billy Matthews of Gates, North Carolina, who passed away on August 19, 2023 at the age of 92. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie Edward and Erma Blanche Smith Matthews; his wife Marie Byrum Matthews; his brother John Carroll "J. C." Matthews; and his nephew Carroll Mizelle.
He is survived by: his nephews, Robert Matthews and Donnie Mizelle. He is also survived by cousins; his church family; and many, many friends.
