He was predeceased by: his parents, Marvin Burton and Elizabeth Burton; his former wife Jackie Theodora Burton; his wife Miriam "Midge" Burton; his brother Robert Burton of Cary, N. C.; and his pet Precious.
He is survived by: his children, Barbara Butts, Steven Burton of Rockwell, N. C., James Burton, Angela Maready, Melissa Beers of Myrtle Beach, S. C. and Samantha Goins; his grandchildren, Steve Jr., Mary (Donavan), Tyler and Cody; his great grandchildren, Tyler, Shelby and Kassidy; and his sister Jane Burton.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations in honor of Sam Burton be made to the following: First Baptist Church of Lowell c/o Children's Ministry 400 West First Street Lowell, N.C.
