He was predeceased by: his parents, Martin Edgar Merrill and Martha Elmore Merrill; his wife Barbara Jean Gibson Merrill; his son Martin E. Merrill; his siblings, Rufus Merrill, Howard Merrill, Corrie Hayes, Margaret Smith, Ovaleen Taylor, Alice Huffstetler and Louise Gue; and his son-in-law Keith Friday.

He is survived by: his children, John Merrill, Dorothy (Billy Stephens), Margaret (Darrell Simonds) and Wanda Friday; his grandchildren, Rusty Simonds, Gina Greene, Michael Friday, Kim Friday, Billy Joe Stephens and Jeffrey Merrill; and his brother-in-law Jack Gibson. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
