He was predeceased by: his parents, Clyde Quickel Hovis and Corrine Spargo Hovis; his wife Doris Jean Smith Hovis; and his brother Alfred Hovis. He is survived by: his stepchildren, Pamela Heim (Dennis) of Gastonia and Scott Poole (Ginni) of Belmont; his grandchildren, Brenna Chandler (Brian) of Kannapolis and Collier Poole of Belmont; and his great grandchild Charley Chandler of Kannapolis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 3717 Hickory Grove Rd. Gastonia, NC 28056.
