He was predeceased by: his parents, James Thompson and Susan Sparrow Thompson; his brother-in-law Reed Crawford; his brother Bill; his sister-in-law Lucille Page; his sons-in-law, Bill Kendrick and Mike McCurry; and his niece Donna Crawford.

He is survived by: his wife Alice Page Thompson; his daughters, Sally (Gary McGinnis) and Susie (Dan Taylor); his grandchildren, Cliff Carver (Rynn), Brad McCurry (Stephanie), Heather Carver, Robert Kendrick (Meredith), DJ McCurry (Katie Dare), Jennifer Nelson (Eric), Leslie Harris (Trey) and Kendall Powell (Blake); his great grandchildren, Wyatt Nelson, Ashe Carver, Emorie Harris, Daniel Kendrick, Emma Kate Nelson, Liam McCurry, Cooper Carver, Gracyn Harris, Liz Kendrick, Gray McCurry, Harrison McCurry and Addie Powell; his sister Kitty Crawford of Charlotte, NC; and his brother-in-law Jack Page (Gearl Dean) of Belmont. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Union Presbyterian Church or First Presbyterian Church, both of Gastonia.
