He was predeceased by: his parents, Gaither Garrison and Ann Strutt Simmons; his brother Joe Simmons; his wife Rosa Crowe Simmons; his children, Charlotte Simmons of Bessemer City, James Simmons and David Simmons (Jill) of Clemmons, NC; his siblings, Clyde Edward Simmons (Pat) of Raleigh and Mary Pressley (Eddie) of Gastonia; his grandchildren, Niki Stone, Amy Stone, Laura Stone, Jenifer Stone, Danielle Tucker, James Simmons II, Holly Simmons and Eric Simmons; and his great grandchildren, Tyr, Lor, Lillian and Lydia.
