With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of James Edward Nivens (Gastonia, North Carolina), born in Gaston, North Carolina, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on July 26, 2024 at the age of 87. He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Kimbrell and Mary Edna Bennett Nivens; his wife Johnnie Vinson Nivens; his daughter Janice Nivens; and his son-in-law Larry Sechler Jr..

He is survived by: his daughters, Patricia Scamardo (Tim) of Gastonia and Shannon Sechler of China Grove; and his grandchildren, Torie Nivens, Michael Scamardo, Meredith Scamardo and Grey Sechler.
