He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Kimbrell and Mary Edna Bennett Nivens; his wife Johnnie Vinson Nivens; his daughter Janice Nivens; and his son-in-law Larry Sechler Jr..

He is survived by: his daughters, Patricia Scamardo (Tim) of Gastonia and Shannon Sechler of China Grove; and his grandchildren, Torie Nivens, Michael Scamardo, Meredith Scamardo and Grey Sechler.
