He was predeceased by: his parents, Jennings Harwell and Ollie Harwell; his son Samuel Lee Harwell; and his brother Larry Joseph Harwell. He is survived by: his wife Betty Stewart Harwell; his son Rick Harwell (Carol); his brother Robert Harwell (Diane); his grandchildren, Mackenzie Ellison, Gavin Harwell (Becca), Graeme Harwell, Kathryn Harwell and Preston Harwell; and his great grandchild Jack Jennings Ellison.
Visitation was held on Friday, November 8th 2024 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at the Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home and Cremation (2916 Union Rd, Gastonia, NC 28054). A graveside service was held on Friday, November 8th 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Friendship Baptist Church (5008 S New Hope Rd, Belmont, NC 28012).
