He was predeceased by: his parent Turner Jones Hughes, Jr.; and his siblings, James Hughes, Hazel Hughes Tucker, Marvin Hughes, Betty Jo Hughes Whisnant and Clara Mae Hughes McBee.
He is survived by: his wife Jane Randolph Hughes; his children, Lou Ann Hughes Gilliam (Paul R. Gilliam III) and David R. Hughes (Laura Cloninger Hughes); and his grandchildren, Matty Grace Gilliam, Gabriel Hughes and Noah Hughes. He is also survived by extended family and friends.
