He is survived by: his wife Sara Etta Lankford Carpenter; his children, Jonathan Eugene Carpenter (Katherine), Charles Rufus Carpenter (Donna), Virginia Susan Carpenter Heavner of Gastonia and Pamela Jane Carpenter Quinn (Vince) of Gastonia; and his sister Mary Jane Clemmer of Murrysville, PA.
