He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Abernathy and Lovenia Spargo Abernathy; and his wife Lynda Conner Abernathy. He is survived by: his children, Mark, Cathy Abernathy, Ellen and Ed Longmire; his siblings, Roger Abernathy (Donna) and Gayle Eaker (Herman); his sister-in-law Emily Reid (Neal); and his granddaughters, Megan, Morgan (Tyler), Olivia (Chandler), Elissa and Alexa. He is also survived by two great granddaughters, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews and friends.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, January 21st 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Hickory Grove Baptist Church (3717 Hickory Grove Rd, Gastonia, NC 28056). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 21st 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Tuesday, January 21st 2025 at the Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery (3717 Hickory Grove Rd, Gastonia, NC 28056).
