It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Coit Robinson Ray Jr. (Gastonia, North Carolina), born in Gaston, North Carolina, who passed away on March 26, 2025, at the age of 90, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Coit Robinson Ray and Willie Paysour Ray; his wife Kathryn "Kat" Ransom Ray; his son Coit R. "Chuck" Ray, III; his grandson Nathan Ray; and his sisters, Barbara Burkett, Sharon Tschillier and Glenda Ray.
He is survived by: his children, Tony Ray (Karen) and Lynn Archer; his grandchildren, Erin Ray, Whitney Edge (Joe), Brittany Foster (Josh), Nick Ray (Lindsay), Josh Ray, Lexie Ray and Chip Ray (Kristy); his great grandchildren, Hayes Edge, Kinsley Edge, Huxley Edge, Jordyn Green, Presley Foster, Everleigh Foster, Junior Ray, Scotti Ray, Gavin Ray, Lakelyn Ray and Elliana Ray; his daughter-in-law Tammy Ray; his brother Robert Ray; and his friend Evelyn Saunders. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation was held on Saturday, April 12th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home and Cremation (2916 Union Rd, Gastonia, NC 28054). A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 12th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location. The inurnment was held on Saturday, April 12th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the Gaston Memorial Park (1200 S New Hope Rd, Gastonia, NC 28054).
