It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Bertie Painter (Gastonia, North Carolina), born in Cherokee, North Carolina, who passed away on December 2, 2019, at the age of 88, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Wesley Raymond and Abby Bell Ledford; her children, Jean James, Rev. Jimmy Painter and James "Buster" Painter; and her siblings, Albert, Elmer, Sylvester, Alvin Ledford, Alma Chastain, Lou Jory, Bertha Painter, Polly Runion, Dessie King and Mae Cheatam.

She is survived by: her husband Carl Junior Painter; her children, Johnny Painter (Joyce) of Dallas, Judy Green (Joe) of Gastonia, Abby McGill (Ricky) of Shelby and June Cash (Jimmy Cash) of Lowell; and her brother Kenneth Ledford (Juanita) of Dallas. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
