In loving memory of Barbara Byrd Gunnings (Gastonia, North Carolina), who departed this world on January 16, 2025 at the age of 85. She was predeceased by: her parents, Willie Byrd and Marie Byrd of Gastonia; and her siblings, William Jefferson Byrd, Derek Lee Byrd, Teretha Byrd, Ernestine Byrd and Christine Byrd.
She is survived by: her significant other Dr. Thomas Gunnings; her daughter Dr. Sonya Gunnings-Moton; her son-in-law Delbert Husband; her grandson Taylor Moton; her great grandchild Thomas Moton; and her sister Joyce Fisher (Clarence). She is also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 25th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 4:45 PM at the Carothers Funeral Home (2205 Williamsburg Dr, Gastonia, NC 28054). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 25th 2025 at 4:45 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gunnings Family Scholarship, College of Education, Michigan State University.
