He is survived by: his sons, Joseph Bowen III (Tracey) of Knightdale, Tony Bowen of Winston Salem and Frank Bowen of Louisburg; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn Regi, Dustin Bowen, Ashley Stewart and Beverly Marie Bowen; and his siblings, Ray Bowen (Helen) of Garner and Joyce Bunn (Leroy) of Garner.
