He was predeceased by: his parents, Gilead Smith Shaw and Marie Millen Shaw; his wife Carol Ellis Shaw; his son Robert Danial Shaw; and his siblings, John Danial Shaw, Irving Dudley Shaw and Glendle Shaw Burns.

He is survived by: his son James Anthony Shaw II; his sisters, Rebecca Ann Shaw and Ruth Shaw Jennings; his nieces, Beth Illig and Laura Markl; and his close friend Linda Stephenson.
