He was predeceased by: his parents, Alton Brooks Ballance and Estelle Aycock Ballance; his wife Edna Edmundson Ballance; his son Timothy Ballance; his granddaughter Whitney Ballance; and his brother Jimmy Ballance.
He is survived by: his children, Sylvia Ballance of Fremont, Ellen Ballance Barnes (Ray) of Clemmons and Dr. William "Bill" Ballance, Jr. (Lisa) of Greenville; his daughter-in-law Kay Sullivan Ballance of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Allison Ballance of Belmont, Will Ballance of Greenville, Dane Barnes of Raleigh, Scott Barnes of Raleigh, Adam Ballance (Emily) of Raleigh and Brandon Ballance (Kathryn) of Raleigh; his great grandchild Annie Ballance; his sisters, Susan Sawyer (Bob) of Greensboro and Anne May of Greenville; his nieces, Mary Jon Pabst of Greenville, Carole Lawson of Pilot Mountain, Joan Hinnant of Goldsboro and Eula L. Gray of LaGrange; and his nephew David Sawyer of Greenville.
