He was predeceased by: his parents, Harvey Leroy and Margaret Benton Whitley; his brother-in-law C. A. "Charlie" Marks, Jr.; and his former wife Sandra Marks. He is survived by: his wife Polly; his daughter Gwynne; his son-in-law Julian Nelms of Fremont; his grandchildren, Boyd Nelms, Lee Nelms and Ashley Smith (Adam); his great grandchildren, Aubrey Claire and Avery Gray Smith of Grantham; his son Whitley, Jr.; his daughter-in-law Candy Whitley of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Benton Whitley of New York City and Wyatt (Kori Whitley); his great grandchildren, Charlie Wynn and Wells Stewart Whitley of Greenville; his niece Laura M. DeMoya; and his nephew C. A. "Chuck" Marks III (Nina).
The family respectfully requests those attending the service to wear a face covering and practice social distancing measures.
