He was predeceased by : his parents, Herman Benton and Irene Langston Benton; and his brother Ray Benton. He is survived by : his wife Peggy Owens Benton; his sons, Jaden Benton, Gary Benton (Anne) of Fremont, Neal Benton (Shelby) of Goldsboro and Mike Benton (Joan) of New Kent, VA; his grandchildren, Bryan (Rachel), David (Christina), Kelly, Owen (Olivia), Stephen (Emily), Mallory (Carl), Emily, Brooke (Chris), Beau and Anna; and his siblings, Geraldine Holland of Goldsboro, J. B. Benton (Eunice) of Fremont and Bobby Benton (Sandra) of Pikeville.
