He was predeceased by: his parents, Catherine Swift Willoughby Peterson and Norris Pryor Peterson; and his brother Edward Merwyn Peterson. He is survived by: his wife Bea; his children, Robert (Trish) and Lori (Joe); his brother Norris Pryor Peterson; his grandchildren, Stephen Peterson, Lacey, Michael Gibbons, Cheyenne Peterson, Jacob Wood, Jared Wood, Ian Peterson and Justin Wood; and his great grandchildren, Layla and Loki Gibbons.
