Peggy Lou Moore Obituary

Peggy Lou Moore, 90, passed away on March 05, 2025 at her home in Franklinton, NC. Peggy was born on October 02, 1934 in Franklinton to the late Tillman and Mabel Mitchell Moore. In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her brother, Gordon Davis Moore; and her sister, Marian Ann Moore. Peggy remained deeply connected to her home and family throughout her life.

A graduate of East Carolina University, Peggy dedicated her career to 32 years of education. She began teaching in Henderson before transferring to Wilmington and later concluding her career at Sanderson High School in Raleigh. Her passion for teaching left a lasting impact on countless students over the years.

Peggy was a devoted member of Popes Chapel where she served as secretary and treasurer for many years. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she found great joy in jotting down her favorite biblical poems, verses, and songs. She was well known for her strong singing voice and spent many cherished years singing in the choir. Her love for church and her church family was evident in all she did.

Outside of her professional and spiritual commitments, Peggy found happiness in simple pleasures. She loved yardwork and took great pride in mowing grass. Shopping was another favorite pastime, but above all else, she treasured spending time with her family. Though she never had children of her own, she played a motherly role to her nieces and nephews in many ways and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Peggy is survived by her sister-in-law, Donna Moore; her niece, Michelle McGhee (Connie) ; her nephew, Dave Moore (Jennifer); great-nieces and great-nephews, Emily Creech (Brandon), Caroline Kearney (Troy), Connor McGhee (Brooke), Colby Whitley (Brent), Holly White (Matt), and Brooke Jackson (Caleb); and her great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, Avery Jo Whitley, Tillman White, Gordon Creech, Presley Kearney, and soon to come, Willa McGhee and Mavis Creech.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, March 9, 2025 at Popes Chapel Christian Church, Pocomoke Rd. Franklinton, NC 27525 with the Reverend Darrell Pierce officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall and at other times at Peggy's home.

Flowers will be accepted or consider contributions to Popes Chapel Christian Church in Peggy's memory.
